My ceramic sculptures are all hand made and fired in my own studio. I make both Limited Editions and Open Editions.
In preference to glazes I have chosen to use the more natural qualities of the material and processes. These vary from the purity and translucent, marble-like quality of unglazed porcelain to the grainy texture of the slate black and sandstone finishes which I have developed for my large-scale outdoor sculpture.
But when I require a greater diversity of decorative finish I utilise the spontaneity of smoke firing and the natural feel of the clay, which results in a unique individual finish and appearance that each smoke fired piece acquires.
